
I saw this in a bookshop when it was originally published, looked at how "thin" it was compared to his other books and was reluctant to part with the money, to be honest. So when I saw it in a thrift shop for 50 pence, it was instantly in my hands.
And yes, it would have been worth paying full price for. The only Bryson book I read which I didn't think was truly wonderful was the Life and Times of the Thunderbolt kid.
And maybe I shall get that from the Library and give it another try. Perhaps I am a little less critical than when I first read it.......
