I thoroughly enjoyed Educating Esme. The diary of a newly qualified teacher's first year at a "deprived area" school in Chicago. Inspiring and terrifying in equal quantities......
An inside view of Churchill and World War II by one of his team of war secretaries. It was fascinating to read about a real-life experience rather than a third party sanitised historical account. The author portrays herself, Churchill and those she met in very real terms, though her admiration and respect for Churchill shine through in every word. A great book, and certainly one I will look out to buy a copy for myself.
Claire Tomalin's biography of Jane Austen is superb. Words simply cannot do it justice. I shall treasure this book and re-read it often.
