I cannot recommend these books highly enough if you have a thoughtful, sensitive child who loves historical stories. Some of the topics may be suitable only for 10+ age, due to some of the really quite sad themes touched upon, but they are accurate reflections of what life was like in the Roman Empire, for Christians, Jews and Pagans , slaves and free alike.
The telling of the explosion at Pompeii is amazingly gripping !
Interspersed with the history are some lovely bits of theology, where Doctor Mordecai is expounding some of the teachers of the Master - Jesus- to his son and his friends , and explaining what sets them apart from mainstream Jewish thought.
There are 15 books in the series so far, I believe. DD3 and I are loving them !
