This original Russian icon dating back to 1880s was defaced at some point by having the eyes of the Christ Child gouged out; possibly during the Soviet persecutions. I saw this on EBay and bought it for 20 dollars about 2 years ago. At least it has a good home with us, and it has been blessed in church and is reverenced frequently. I find it all the more poignant because of its sufferings......
